Tilton, NH – Girish, an accomplished musician of many genres, former monk infused in spiritual practice, loving wordsmith linking lyrics and rhythm in a blissful musical event, will be performing live at The Yoga Center at Awakening Chiropractic, PLLC, September, 21 at 2:30pm, for a sacred music concert, and a live music and yoga class with Asa Dustin.

Join Girish and his eclectic band on Wednesday for songs, hymns, and chants from Girish’s new CD, “Diamonds in the Sun”, along with some old favorites.

Girish sings traditional Sanskrit mantras with a modern, funky, yet deeply devotional twist. Accompanied by his amazing band, Girish invites his audience at his concert to participate by singing along, call and response chanting, and dancing. Girish invites students in the live music and yoga class to let go and let their yoga flow through the beats and rhythms of his soul stirring tunes.

Girish is a singer, songwriter, session tabla player, and producer whose life journey has been marked by a series of profound transformations. He has gone from aspiring jazz drummer to renunciant Hindu monk, to first call tabla guru for the likes of Krishna Das, to solo mantra troubadour, and he’s not done yet. 

Girish lived in an ashram for five years taking the vows of a monk in the divine mother tradition called Dakshina Marg or Mahashakti Yoga. Another compelling sound force emerged for Girish: the chanting of Sanskrit mantras. As a monk in the ashram he spent hours every day chanting. Girish also studied Sanskrit as a means to understand the deeper meanings of these ancient chants, and helped his teacher translate dozens of hymns.

Before embarking on his own journey as a solo singer, Girish preformed with some of the most celebrated kirtan artists including Snatam Kaur, Krishna Das, Rasa, Dave Stringer, Wah, and Donna DeLory, and has been instrumental in the growing popularity of chant and kirtan music in the United States. According to Pure Music’s Frank Goodman, kirtan, like the unpredictable rise and rejuvenation of the many forms of yoga in recent years, is everywhere now and there is a growing number of people flocking to the kirtan scene.

Girish is currently on tour to support Diamonds in the Sun (Mondolaya, April 2010). His widely acclaimed Yoga Vision (Mondolaya, January 2008) Shiva Machine (Spirit Voyage, October, 2005) and Reveal (Mondolaya, May, 2004) cds, dvds, and tours popularized his original music in yoga studios, churches, and music festivals all over the world.
